There are two ways to earn a CPO® Certification:Take the traditional 2-day classroom course. Take a blended version to include an online course and a one day classroom course.
Pool Operator Primer™ Online Course
You can quickly improve your knowledge, reduce risk, and become the respected pool professional by taking this engaging, interactive program. This online training program can be the first step to earning CPO® Certification or it can be an excellent stand-alone course in the fundamentals of pool and spa operation. This online curriculum follows the 18 chapters in the NSPF® Pool & Spa Operator™ Handbook, which is included as part of the course. You will have online course access for six months and successful completion of all lessons earns you a Record of Completion.
Pool Operator Fusion™ Classroom Course
This one-day classroom course is offered as the second step to earning a CPO® Certification for those that successfully completed the Pool Operator Primer™ Online Course. In this course, the instructor will review concepts in the online course, answer questions, cover state codes and administer an exam. Students must present a Pool Operator Primer™ record of completion to the instructor at the beginning of the course. Pool & Spa Basics Course
The Pool & Spa Basics online training course is designed to quickly get retailers, builders, distributors and manufacturers up to speed on the basics of pool and spa operation. The course will help people gain the basic knowledge required to effectively serve their customers. This course was to meet the needs of those individuals new to the industry, who know that customers expect to find well-informed people on staff. Whether they are answering phones, working the retail counter, or in the field, the Pool & Spa Basics and Water Chemistry Basics courses will give them the knowledge and confidence they need.
Students will learn about different types of pools and spas, materials, and construction, including:
- reducing risk in and around the water
- safe chemical handling and storage
- importance of recordkeeping
- identifying causes of water loss
- types of energy loss
- and designing for air circulation

Water Chemistry Basics Course
The Water Chemistry Basics online training course is designed to get retails, builders, distributors and manufacturers up to speed on the basics of water chemistry, water testing and chemical dosing. The course will help people gain the basic knowledge required to effectively serve their customers.
Students will learn about water balance, proper disinfectants, calculations for breakpoint chlorination, how to handle fecal related contamination and other recreational water illnesses. Learning how to calculate for correct water balance using the saturation index, recognizing factors to consider when choosing disinfectant, and understanding operating practices that help prevent the spread of diseases in the pool environment are some of the critical learning that will arm employees with effective education to properly help their customers.

Certified Pool & Spa Inspector™ Course
Health inspectors can quickly understand the basics of operation, the key hazard and risk areas, and how to better implement consistent and effective inspections. Pool management and operators are also interested in this course to learn what inspectors examine on a pool inspection. You will also receive a Certified Pool/Spa Inspector™ Handbook with the course.

RWIs can cause a wide variety of symptoms, including gastrointestinal, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, neurologic, and wound infections. Crypto, which can stay alive for days even in well-maintained pools, has become the leading cause of swimming pool-related outbreaks of diarrheal illness.

Home Pool Essentials™ Maintenance and Safety Course
The Home Pool Essentials™: Maintenance and Safety course developed by the National Swimming Pool Foundation® and the American Red Cross, teaches pool care and water safety techniques to help people keep their aquatic environments safe and well-maintained.
